Help Identify

This is a John Deere Cultivator that I recently acquired and I have not positively identified it in terms of what model it is. Also,it may have more pieces than it should or less. I have looked at some of the part numbers in this deal and they are as follows, C48N- JD Cultivator Pipe Crosshead Shank Clamp, C6N- JD Cultivator Rear Tool Mount, F608AN-- Shovel Sleeve (4 of these), F608AN--Spring tip support (3 of these) plus extra shank extensions, hangers etc.
I do not need it so I am in hopes that someone may need some or all of it. Any estimated values would be helpful too. Thank you.

The front gangs look a lot like the ones on a cultivator for a MT. I am guess where the rear gang is for a 3 PT. that the unit may be for a 40, 420, or 430?

Rear gang looks definite like 3pt hitch - shovels would be for hilling, like in potatoes. We used disks on front gangs for that, second in line -first tooth was set to lift vines, and disk piled dirt in underneath.

I am pretty sure you have parts of a JD S1 or S1A cultivator. They where made to fit a JD 1010 RS. The give away is the shank mount on the right in your picture. See how it is curved below the mount. This is to get the cultivator under the tractor more. The right side shank mount is straight and the left has the curve/bend in the bottom. You also have the lift shaft/rock shaft that goes under the battery box. It was pulled by an arm/wishbone from the rear three point. This rock shaft pushed forward on the two rods to lift the cultivator.

The problem is that you do not have the actual front mounts in the picture. You have the shanks/mounting bars but not the tractor brackets. They are shown on Pg 5 in the parts catalog. The way to tell exactly what cultivator you have would be to look at the mounts. The early ones just bolted to two front bolts by the radiator. This would be before 1963 and would make it a S1 model. The mount after 1963 had a longer mounting plate and used two additional bolts back by the clutch housing. This would make it a S1A model.

Go to jdpc.deere.com and the catalog is number 875. It is a PDF file you can download and print off if you want. It is only 20 pages.

As for value. The JD 1010s are getting collected real hard right now. I saw a S1A cultivator,that was complete with all the brackets, sell last fall for $1500 at an auction. The guy that bought it drove from Maryland to Wisconsin just to buy them. He told me after the sale he was prepared to go as high as $3000 for them.

Thirty years ago I bought a complete set "new" from a dealer that still had them. I had a JD 1010 RS and wanted to cultivate the garden with it. I gave him $250 for everything other than the shanks. They had used them on a different model of cultivator but I got all the brackets and two lift wishbones.

It actually was a pretty good little cultivating tractor. It used oil and I did not want the cost/trouble of fooling with the sleave deck motor. I sold it and bought a IH 274. It was a much better cultivating tractor. Just being a diesel was a big step up.

So if you can find the brackets than it could be worth some money. If not than as parts you still have the rear hitch/sweep mount. Those are hard to find.
