Help identifying plow

Fellas,

I have the opportunity to pick up this plow for $250 but the owner doesn’t really know what he has. Can you tell me anything about it? Particularly the size.

The plow is missing the tail wheel so will
make your tractor crab to port.
That really devalues it imo.
It does have both coulters and the shares
and moldboards look pretty good - from
here.
I would give a a max of $125 for it and
then would part it out.
If the tail wheel was there and the rest
looked as good as it does it would sell
pretty easily for $350 here come spring.
Measure from the center of the beam to
center of the beam to get the width.

The plow is a ferguson from '43/'47. The plow appears to be a 14" but as UD shows measure it to be sure. If it's a 16" plow and pull with an N tractor, unless your
soil is loose, it may be too hard pull it.It's missing jointers and as UD said the tail wheel assembly. They are hard found and usually not cheap when you find them.
Without a tail wheel it won't plow good. another option if you can't find a tailwheel would be to weld a piece of steel plate to lengthen the landside and add a
heel. The moldboards and shares appear to be in fair condition and should clean up. I can't see any welding on them from your photo. Price IMO is way too high. I
might go up to $150 in hopes I could pickup and tailwheel at an auction or junk yard. If he stays fast at $250 or $200 I would tell me good luck with your sale and
come the spring he might even sell it to some poor sole who will probably post here "why doesn't my furrows look like the ones in all the books I see.

Thank you gentlemen, I knew I could get good info here. I do believe I’ll pass on it. I’m not so interested in fixing something as I am using it.

I had a Ferguson plow similar to that one. I couldn't find
moldboards locally. Kirk-NJ went out of his way to help me find
some but shipping was a deal killer for me due to the weight.
I sold it for $100 to a guy who worked in a fabricating shop and
figured he could make his own. The rest of the plow was solid.
No breaks, no welds, tail wheel/rolling landside included.
Mine was a 2-14, about perfect for a ballasted 8N around here.
I pull a 2-12 Dearborn or a 1-16 no-name now. Either one is a
bit much when I hit the red clay portions without ballast.

If you get it bought, like stated it will not follow your tractor straight without the wheel. I have someone's creation where they took a Little Genius pull plow and made it a mounted plow. No wheel on the back and it wouldn't plow straight at all. After looking at my brothers Allis mounted plow without a tail wheel I noticed that it had a very long landslide. So I extended mine another 14 inches and it plows nice and straight now. Just food for thought.
