Help Identifying seal gasket

Got a top end gasket set for ad3.152 motor, and I'm wondering what these six seal things are for...anyone know?

You have to remove the valve springs to put them on.

Also there is usually a clear plastic sleeve or two with those seals. The sleeve slips over the top of the valve to protect the seal as you slide it down the valve and past the keeper grooves.

I wonder why the manual doesn't specify these. Is the clear plastic sleeve removed after the seal is in place? So it's only for installation?

These valves have a double spring, small inside one, do these seals interfere with these inside springs. I'm wondering if the kit supports other heads as well thus the reason why they included them...I wonder if I'm supposed to use them for my ad3.152 diesel head.

If you have the Parts Manual, it should show a complete exploded view. I won't work on anything without a Parts Manual. Tom

A real MF, or Perkins engine repair shop manual should show it, the parts manual doesn't show it in very good detail. All they do is keep engine oil from going down the valve stems, and keeps oil from being burned, or spit out the exhaust. In a gas engine they are more critical as the intake sees high vacuum where a diesel doesn't. If you ever seen a car engine smoke a little bit when it starts, or let off the throttle its from bad valve stem seals. The gasket kit probably does support both the diesel, and gas Perkins 3.152, those seals shouldn't interfere with the dual valve springs.

thanks, I'm thinking these seals are not for my head, but for a different head, like you said supported by this kit.

It's easier, and cheaper for them to make a "all in one" gasket set. Plus its one, or two less part number(s) for a gasket set. My old MF shop manual doesn't show (or say anything) about valve stem seals.
