Help Identifying Tractor

Hi,
Have a tractor that been in my family over 70 years. I"m trying to confirm the make and model and the year it may have been made. My mom says she remembers her parents had the tractor when she was 3-4 years old, she was born in 1942. I"ve located some identifying numbers on the rear wheel. S G H in a circle, and AM-3798-8. Tractor ran when it was put up 6 years ago so I can"t pull it out to get good rear pictures. I"m including some from the front. It has a 4 speed transmission, hitch and attachments for plows.

Well, there's a flat spot on "On top of transmission case, behind shift lever" that will give you the tractor model (B, C, CA) and serial number. I'm leaning towards CA, with some form of high crop set up. If you can get the link below to work (right now I can't get the site to go through for me), you should be able to look at the parts book and find the wheel casting you gave (It has been commented on this form that AM is a common Allis Chalmers casting prefix).

It's possible to be an early 50's model. Based on my moms recollections. As long as I can remember it had the high crop attachment. But they were using it at least 30 years before I came along.

Thanks to all for the info.

I'll look in that area. I could barely make out the letters stamped. I may be able to use a paper and crayon to highlight the area to make it easier to see. Thanks

I would be more concerned about pulling it out from under that roof that is about to fall on it. Looks like a nice little tractor.

No worries about the roof, it's being held up by 2 - 8x8 post and is only a partial cover. Happy that it fell toward the back otherwise would have damage tractor. Still protects tractor from weather. Thanks

It is a CA, made 1950-1958. It has the hand clutch plus the two bosses in the front casting for the cultivator mount. C does not have that. Six bolt rear hubs, not five like a Model C. Four speed transmission. C had three speed.

CA for sure - High Crop modification not sure about Thomson conversion - have not seen that front variation. As to exact year, see attached image for s/n location in front of gear shift. http://people.clemson.edu/~wsmth/images/SNB.jpg
