Help--shanks on old chisel plow

tc in Tx

I have an old J.I. Case model 5000 chisel plow with 5 shanks. Plowing new ground with stumps I have now broken 3 of the 5 shanks. The local Case/IH dealer has them for $178 each which nearly exceeds the value of the whole plow.

Looked all over the internet for a replacement for their part number (T 26102) and have not been able to get a match to come up. But I did find a manual on EBay which I ordered. Thinking it might be just as well to just replace the whole bolt on assembly rather than pay nearly $200 per shank.

Does anyone have a suggestion? These fit 4 inch square tubing frame.

I"d look for a different chisel, like a Glencoe Giant C. Bought mine new in 1980, has spring loaded shanks. I like to go rock hunting with it. Have pulled out rocks you can"t hide under a kitchen table! Only shank I ever broke was when I made the mistake of backing up, instead of going around again. Tip caught the rock and they don"t take reverse pressure. Some of the shanks are "stretched" a bit out of their original curve from snagging rocks.
