HELP TROUBLE SHOOTING

JD 570A MOTOR GRADER,,,
TRACTOR RUNS BAD TILL YOU OPEN SOME SMALL
BLEEDER ON THE INJECTION PUMP AND THEN,WITH THE
BLEEDER OPEN,IT RUNS GREAT...CLOSE THE BLEEDER AND
IT GOES BACK TO RUNNING BAD...

... ANY IDEAS...

does it have a roosamaster injection pump?if so the rubber governor ring has come apart and pieces of it are plugging up the fuel return line.when pressure builds inside the pump the engine will sputter and die

Yes the fuel return check valve is clogged,,remove the fitting out of the pump(it's the one that goes up and across all of the injectors), there is a washer,spring and check ball in the fitting pry the stuff out of the fitting and blow through it and remove the fuel cap and blow through the line to the tank, put it back together wuthout the check valve stuff and try it.

Not to be a burr under yer saddle, Tim, but I just don't think that is a wise band-aid repair.

First off, you've just killed the advance. Secondly, without the coupling retainer, those little tin nubs will quickly wear off.

At that point, we've got a diesel without a governor and ya know what that means.

I'd opt fer fixing the original problem

You are absolutely right about that,the pump will eventualy need to come off and be repaired, I keep a couple of those coupleings here in the shop to show people what is happening and what to expect,"most" of the time they will go a couple of years under mild use till they get worse, and then the timeing gets sloppy and the problem raises it's head a bit higher, it seems like these new fuel mixes that we have now, exspesialy 'road fuel' is harder on that coupleing.

thanks tim...do you know anyone who could rebuild this pump...i removed the check valve and it s running fine,but it s going to need rebuilt eventually...803 444 0235
