Having trouble with the web. How do you remove the ratched gear from the Drive shaft on rear. Or is there something I dont know ( PROBABLY)

Also does the web chain go over or under the axel? Mine hangs about 6 inches under it. Seems odd! Please give me a hand !
Thanks
Jim

Conveyer chain goes over axle. Axle even has wear plates for chain to ride on.

I bought an operators manual and a parts manual and neither showed the view you just did.

Have you ever tried to pull the ratchet gear off that shaft on the back. It doesnt work right and i think that back side of dog holder may need repaired is worn and makes it travel at an angle when spread if full ???
thanks bunches

One time Key#5 Bolt broke on our 34 Spreader allowing Key#10 Pawl to cock sideways. It continued to drive the ratchet until the teeth were too badly wore to drive the apron chain. If that's the case that ratchet isn't cheap; 10 years ago I think it was around $400 from Deere.

I had to pull the ratchet gear off an old International simular to that one awhile back and weld up one of the teeth that had broken off. Don't remember how it was held to the shaft but it slid right off. From the parts picture it looks like it is held in place with the two plates. If the gear doesn't move on the shaft, it is likely rusted in place, don't see any pins or set screws in the picture that would hold it in place. If you have a gear puller, time, and a can of penetrating oil and maybe a little heat, it should come off.

I believe that Part # 17 is worn allowing the dog not to ratchet squarely when loaded. Someone had added an additional spring to outside plate to the frame. I can make it unload if I put a tarp strap on the plate giving it more tension and it unloads?? Thanks For Everyones HELP !!!
MUCH APPRECIATED...neighbor has a Model 40 have looked it over and see no difference other than size...
I may need a witch to fix this one ( I think it may be possessed :)))
