Help, what tractor do I have?

I recently purchased a Ford industrial tractor and was told by the seller that it's a 1987 545A. Well, I started doing some research and now believe I may have a 340 of some sort. It has a 3 cylinder gas engine and 3 forward/2 reverse trans with hi/lo range. According to Tractordata.com, there was no gas engine even offered for the 545A. I'd really like to find out more about this machine so that I can get a shop manual for it and know exactly what I have. Any info or advice about this machine would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for any feedback! Here are the numbers on the ID tag on the hood:

I already answered this for you over on external_link.com, but I'll repeat it here:

The engine doesn't match the sticker. Here's a breakdown of the model number CU414K:

CU4 - model 340B tractor
1 - diesel engine with vertical exhaust
Second 4 - independent 540 rpm PTO
K - 6x4 manual reversing transmission

That sticker with those numbers is on the under side of the right side hood panel, so the tractor that hood panel left the factory attached to had a diesel engine. If it has a gas engine now then either the engine or the hood panel are not original to the rest of the tractor.

The Unit Number, 6B25B says that it was assembled on February 25, 1986 during the day shift.

The Tractor Number is the Serial number, C754755 is a 1986 serial number.

So now you need to find the date codes on the other major components of the tractor and see how many of them match the sticker. If the numbers on the transmission, rear axle, hydraulic pump and hydraulic lift all match the sticker then the most obvious explanation is that the engine was swapped out at some point.

The main difference between the 340B and the 545A was the engine, The 545A had a 201 ci diesel and the 340B had a 192 ci diesel. Neither was available with a gasoline engine. They had the same front and rear axles and 3 point lift system.

While I was writing a reply I came across a reply from Sean in La. who said it is a 340B which I concur. For some reason his reply did not post even though it lists a reply ?? Still it does not list this as coming with a gas engine and it should be a 3.1 liter.

CU414K indicates you have a 340B with diesel engine, ind. 540 pto and 6x4 manual reversing transmission
6B25B indicates it was built Feb 25, 1986 on day shift

Ether your tractors had a engine change, it was improperly labeled at the factory or the hood has been swapped
Look on the clutch housing just behind the starter for the hand stamped numbers and see if they match the ones on the hood tag, should look smiler to the included photo.

Thanks guys for all the info. I'll look
into it some more and hopefully get it
narrowed down. Everything seems to work
good so far except the engine stutters
some when I throttle it up. It has a
Holley carb and I was told it may need a
new accelerator pump to solve this issue.
It supposedly has had a recent tune-up so
the rest of the ignition system should be
fresh.

Just went through an ID issue for a Ford I recently bought. Mine ended up being a 340. This is a good reference to ID these tractors along with all the help from members of this site.
