Help!!!! with 2N

OK I can not find any videos on how to remove the brake assembly from the axle and brake hub. I have loosened the adjuster as far as it can go but still can not remove the
assembly. I tried to pry on it a little thinking that the brakes may be stuck because of all the grease but that didn't work either. So I'm at a loss any ideas?

Thanks
Mike

You might search for axle seal replacement, I know there are a few videos on that, and they should get you started. It?s not like an auto. The FO-4 manual is well worth the price, it will have the info that you?ll need. You can order one from this site. I think you have to remove the trumpet to get to the brakes.

Thanks I have the FO-4 service manual it gives a description of what is there but doesn't really say how to get the two apart. I have looked at the videos of replacing the seals and they have been no help. Thanks for your time and advice I'll just have to keep looking.

Thanks
Mike

I just finished doing my 9N brakes and had some trouble too. I believe the 2N is similar to the 9n. Have you removed the 6 bolts from the outside of the trumpet? These bolt hold the wheel brakes and axle in place on the 9N and you cannot get to the brakes without pulling the whole outside assembly with the axle out of the trumpet. Once they are removed you should be able to separate the drum from the brakes. Hopefully this is helpful.

I just finished doing the brakes on my 9n Tractor and I believe the 2n is similar. Have you taken the 6 bolts on the outside of the trumpet off? these on the 9n hold the whole outside assembly together as well as hold the axle in place. Once removed the whole assembly with the axle will come out. This will loosen up the assembly for you to be able to inspect, replace or clean the brakes. Hope this helps. And just incase this is the second time I sent this as the first one didn't seem to post.

Yes I actually have the axle and assembly out but The brakes are what seam to be stuck and the assembly will not pull off. It comes up about a half inch then stops. I afraid to pry on it to much as I am afraid it will break something important. I'll just keep working at it. Its got to come apart sooner or later. Thanks for your help and your time responding to this post.

Thanks,
Mike

Sounds like the shoes are hanging on the drum. What I have done in similar situation is to grind off the heads of the "nails" (retaining pins) which lets the shoes pull up further.

Make sure the adjuster is such as to retract the shoes fully, as with drum wear there will be a ridge that shoes must pass over.

Ok thanks for all the great info. Finally got it after prying on the darn thing for over an hour. I think it finally came loose when on of the pins that holds the brakes actually came off and the springs pulled them in toward each other. It was a job now I got to do the other side waiting on new seals and picking up brakes tomorrow hopefully.

You guys are great thanks again for all the help.
