Help with a Marvel-Schebler on a 40U

I have the MS manual for John Deere tractors. It lists a TSX-530 carb for the model 40.
I'm cleaning the carb, intending for new gaskets, seats, etc.

My carb bowl has 10-A38 cast into the bottom of the bowl.
The flange which mates to the intake manifold has 255 stamped on the mating face.
I can't find any of these numbers in the MS manual.

I'm guessing I have a carb which did not come with this tractor. Can anybody point me to a cross-reference table or a "master index" so I
can tell what carb I'm holding in my hand?

TIA

Is there a round brass tag affixed to the carb? Or 1 of the round bosses on the side of the upper half have a number stamped in them. The John Deere carb service manual shows the 10-A38 bottom in there rebuild pictures.

Just to clarify, you do have the Marvel-Schleber repair manual, but not the JD Carb service manual SM2024? And yes, you have the correct carb # if it's a gas burner. If it's all-fuel, you should have a TSX562

Correct.

Take a look at the table below.

Correct.

Take a look at the photo below of the fuel bowl.

Correct.

Take a look at the photo below of the throttle body.

The carburetor that you have is a TSX 530 which is correct for your tractor.

Hope this helps.

Guess I jumped to a wrong conclusion......

Thx very much for confirming I have the TSX530 carb.

James, how do you get your work done with such well detailed explanations?

Thx,

My primary responsibility each day is filling eight dog food bowls; leaves me plenty of "[i:654c4848f0]leisure[/i:654c4848f0]" time.

This one was easy because this TSX530 is on a shelf about six feet from the computer.

A new rebuild kit has been sitting next to it for several months.

The brass tag on the front of the throttle body is stamped TSX-530 with 6 53 stamped underneath.

Took several photos of the brass tag, but the flash would "[i:654c4848f0]blind[/i:654c4848f0]" the characters and make them unreadable.

Photographs and scanned John Deere publication information usually provides good evidence for accurate answers.

See the tag riveted to the throat just below the mounting flange? That tag should have the model number & other info you need. Those numbers in the pictures are more likely casting numbers from the foundry.

Hope that helps.
