We have a (from what I am told ) a 1911 IHC horse drawn manure spreader. I volunteer at a farm museum and have to paint this unit. The problem is what colour was it originally ? Some indication it was Red other indicate red and green. Can any help me on my problem. Thanks Peter

Red & green is right for that era. The wood tongue would have most likely been ocher. Most likely the box was red & the wheels, sprockets, beater, etc. would have been green if it is a Corn King model. It's all green with a red apron & ocher tongue if it's a Cloverleaf.

There are other options, depending on what machine you have. You can take a peek at a few period color posters here:

Edit:

Just noticed you are from Canada. The paint schemes & lettering may be different on your side of the black line. Keep an eye out for that detail.

Thanks, I don’t know what model it is. It came to us all sandblasted. From the pictures I have seen on the web it’s a IHC. From the picture I got off the web it’s red and green. Your reply just convinced me that the colours I’m going to paint it.
Thanks for your reply. Take care Peter

Thanks. I will see what I can find.
Here's an early paint chart from the WHS. It's from 1940.

The red for the majority of the spreader is the top left chip. Looks like the lower left chip will do for green, though not exact. Ocher is on the right, second from the top. You can order a color-matched copy from the society if you wish. Don't recall it being that much $$.
