Help with IH10 Semi Mount

I need some help with the operation of a grain drill I just purchased. I bought the manual and nowhere in there does it mention a #10 semi mount and I also don't see where you adjust the planting depth. I think I may have it figured out but I'd like to hear from someone who knows from use. I just planted some buckwheat this weekend and it did a good job but its planting too deep for the brown top I want to plant later this year.

#10 Semi Mount is in a different book...it's a different machine than a #10 pull type.

I use a 510 semimount.

Depth of planting is by adjusting the bolts on the end wheels (near where the drive gears are you will see the holes in the frame that allow the wheels to adjust up or down)

There is also the stops on each opener rod where it comes up through the slot in front to limit how far the rod drops, but that is mainly for when you pick the drill up.

Do you know how the holes correlate to the planting depth? I'd rather not buy another manual if I don't need to.

I don't have the book either, but had read it at the dealership and the lower the hole on the frame, the shallower the depth of plant, higher the hole, deeper plant.

I left mine the way it is and I primarily banded fertilizer and put grass seed on.

The setting is easy to change in the field since it's just two bolts and no weight on those wheels when 3pt on. Try the different settings and for a dozen feet and see who deep it puts your seed.

I?ve seen a lot of things at farm auctions far and wide, but I?ve never seen a semi mounted 3 wheel IHC grain drill. Didn?t know such a thing existed.

Thanks for posting.

I think they were marketed to the small mixed farm areas only, so they were very common here, got two in the shed right now, and can think of several more sitting unused within a few miles of here.

They were simpler and cheaper than a 13 run 510 pull type when new and a 40 HP tractor with 3pt which was often the one of the main working tractors would handle one easy, though the front end would be a tad light when loaded with grain, fertilizer and grass seed.
