Help with top cover problem

I'm trying to replace the worn dowel pin that rides on the cam.

I'm trying to get the part with the dowel pin out of the top cover to make replacing the pin easier. I took the castle nut off and removed the control rod but can't figure how to get that part that holds the dowel pin off the shaft. What is holding it on there?

t comes off of the touch control handle end of the shaft.

So I have to start on the outside of the quadrant and take everything off? How does the shaft come out? towards the inside or the outside?

Thank you, I'll give it a try.

Just put some pressure on that nut on the outside of the quadrant shaft and it didn't want to bulge.

I'll soak it in PB Blaster and try an impact driver on it tomorrow and see if that will knock 60 years of rust loose.

Cary.......vise grips are yer friend. Since yer replacin' the dowel pin, scratches don't matter. Simple, eh?......Dell

Cary, Check the specs on that stainless steel dowel pin, not all stainless is hardened. The dowel pins I carry are hardened .0002 oversized for a press fit. Don't have the 7/8" but do have 1"

Actually what I need is an undersized pin. This was from JMOR in my other thread.

"actually 5/16 (0.3125) is 0.0035 too big, but I guess some force it in place of the 0.309 pin."

In relation to this topic, I have just removed the top cover and find, that pin, to be heavily worn. Where are you finding the new pins? Also my lift control arm has a
slight S bend from top to bottom. All of the pics in the FO-4 show it to be straight. Any ideas on what has caused that bend. I am relatively new to working on my 51 8N,so as always any help is appreciated. Thanks
