I read it correctly. The post is about what to charge to mow some acreage. Simply saying what i use to mow mine and what it cost me. Figure fuel, normal wear/tear on tractor/mower and if i was trying to pay for the equipment. That is where the minimum of $50 an hour comes from and i am sure that is way low for today. Hard on machine—. No, I mow at 3-4 miles hours. PTO at full throttle. It does burn almost 3 gallons an hour in heavy growth. IF I WERE mowing for public i would not charge less than $125 hour. I would not charge by the acres. In my opinion mowing with a rotary mower is the hardest thing you can do with a tractor. Way too many unknowns in mowing a new area that you have no idea of what is dumped, hiding, or in the grass. Figure i get a fair amount of practice every year on my property. Mow upwards of 150 acres a year. Maybe 30 acres total of severe hill sides. Several acres i only mow downhill. I am not a rookie with using a ford 2n and a 4 ft mower. Tractor was purchased new in 1999 and mower was bought new in 2004. Think they still are in good shape. You must read the post better. This is not about a 15' mower, or a 90 HP Tractor, or a bid from a guy who doesn't want the work, et cetera. I'd figure you burn 3 Gal. an hour, so you must be hard on your machines! Practice, practice, practice, and be careful as you learn how to mow properly! Safety first! Good luck.
