Hercules IXB engine

Does a Hercules IXB engine have removable valve guides or do I have to pop a valve out to verify. If they do I wanted to get replacements so I can change them and not wait for them to get here

Ok I've seen them listed but because this is supposed to have babbit bearings instead of bearing shells I wasn't sure if the earlier ones didn't and later did

Hello Rusty.., welcome to YT! No personal experience with that engine, but the information I’m finding says there are two possible sizes. Sounds like you may have an earlier engine, might be helpful if you tell us the machine it is in for someone who knows these engines to narrow down which ones your engine needs. Sometimes it’s a time killer, but quite often it is best to tear it down first then you know exactly what you need.

IF you can not find new guides and if you can find some one to reclaim the old ones with a process called knurling the old inside valve guides while in the head. The system is called UTP Valve Guide Knurling System, for reclaiming the inside of worn valve guides still in place in the head.

I got a set from Hercules Engine Parts 704-745-1475. There are two diameters though, so you may still have to take yours out.
I bet Zimmerman Oliver Cletrac has them as well.
