Going to start on the hesston round baler for the next project . picked up a hesston factory manual that will make trouble shooting much easier .

I?m tempted to replumb the tailgate / tension system and get rid of all the computer garbage on it . Guess we will see how it runs looks pretty simple actually

Not really much computer to it. Has magnetic sensor switches and the box just senses open or closed from the switches. Only trouble I've had with the automatic cycle is a couple bad switches. Easy to check resistance with a multimeter.

One nice thing with the hydraulic tie is you can vary the amount of twine by the speed of the baler. Less twine slow pto down more twine speed it up. Keep a watch on the bale tention hydraulic rams. If the pin comes out of the cylinder rod then the other side gets all bent out of shape. Nice thing also is that when he baler gets over full, the pickup quits turning. Great balers. We have had ours for 18 years. Once thing would be nice is if it would warn you that the baler is not turning say if the pickup gets jammed and pluggs the belts. Just about burnt the baler once when the slip clutch started throwing burning embers of clutch facing down into the swath. Carry a fire extinguishing device.
That's all.

I've been reading this manual all day and it looks pretty simple I'm Going to hook it up and try the manual functions

watched the video ptfarmer, how many hp do you need to run the 560 baler? looks like your making nice uniform bales, on that hay what would be the average weight of those bales? looks like a nice smooth running baler and you where moving right along. thanks for posting the video.

Bale size 75 inch diameter 61.5 width 2200 lbs max bale weight probably 70 hp to run and keep it under
control

I have another question sv. as you know i'm doing a winter refit on my mm m5 in the shop, it never had the electric outlet on the back you need for pulling a baler like yours or others. I know there is a standard plug in (similar to a trailer plug for trailers) that you mount at the back of the seat area, how is that plug in powered and how is it controlled? a switch on the dash? or live all the time? theres nothing in my m5 manuals on the wiring for one. I was thinking now would be a good time to install one with everything apart and easy access.

damn those are big bales, that's 40 of my square bales!! hhmmm 70 hp. my m5 could pull that, what would a 560 in decent shape like your go for sv. ?

Paid 2000$ for this one. It needs a little tlc I've got new wiring harness for part of it they were missing
when i bought it need to go pick them up and see How it runs . I think 70 would be bare minimum to handle
it. I don't plan on making any 2200 pound bales or 6 foot diameter probably 4.5 tall and a 1200

The monitor tells you when to drive right, and left to keep the bales uniform, as for the weight we like them around 1000lbs (5'x5'). I think it requires at least 55 pto hp, with a 75 pto hp tractor it makes the 5'x'5' 1000 lb bale with no problem (the 7710 Ford in the video has 86 pto hp).

My benchmark is a 5x6 properly rolled and moisture level at 1600#. With that benchmark, you would be running right at 900# under the same conditions on a 5x4.5. A 4x6 would come in at 1200#........as I see it. I downsized from a JD 530 5x6 to a 375 which rolls 5x4s for a tad over 700#. Makes for a lot easier bale to move about and feed with a smaller tractor. I roll with a Branson 6530 at 57 PTO and no problems.

As I mentioned earlier today, I had a Hesston 5560 as I recall and it was closed throat making starting a roll of sorghum sudan tricky.....you had to give it time to "gobble" the wad and start the roll before you started feeding it any volume of material to speak of. Once started, it baled ok as long as the WW wasn't too big.

On this one you just run power from the battery up to the control box and then another harness goes from
the box to the baler . I'm thinking it would be nice to have a power outlet strip to plug radios and baler
monitors and acre counters into .

We have the case ih 8460 which is the same baler only painted red with Case ih decals and now that it's 27 years old it has a couple issues but worked good. I've had a 5 by 6 bale weigh over 2000 pounds on multiple occasions it makes a very nice tight bale you'll like it. Any questions just ask I'll try my best to answer

I took the JD 5X6 with compression cranked all the way up and moisture at 18% spec's at 1600 with a volume: ( pi x radius squared x length)....for a number.

Taking the dimensions of the one mentioned herein and taking the ratio came out with what I said.

Did a little body work to control box today everything inside looks good and I picked up the new wiring harness today as well it looks like a big machine hooked to the 3020 for sure

I think I have the complete case ih service manual here if you run into any questions that your book doesn't cover

are you going to be pulling it with the 3020 or 4020 sv.? it looks in nice shape, most used one's I see up here are fairly beat up with bent up guards and covers, lots of them missing covers and guards. now the only problem I see sv. is the colour clash! it would look a lot better behind my m5 the red of the 560 with the prairie gold, that jd green really clashes with the red

Thanks cm. Yess the colours do clash a bit but I must say I do like a hesston piece of equipment behind a
John Deere trator you just can't beat the prime line for hay machinery. I'm not sure which tractor will
pull the baler it will depend mostly which tractor is hooked to what at the time I think what will happen
is 3020 on the mower/ rake ,and the baler on the 4020. I was really glad when I found the baler and the
shape it was in. You are welcome to borrow the baler anytime I'm not using it . it would look good on an mm

would love to take that baler for a spin sv. to bad I wasn't closer  any round baler iv'e seen for sale up here in that kind of shape is between $6 and $10k. $2000.00 up here will by you a parts baler  one of the indicators I use judging a piece of equipment that I want to buy (how good are they, how reliable etc) is how many are there out there for sale? if theres loads of them for sale I start digging a little deeper, what are people who own them saying? usually find they have lots of problems, not very many glowing testamonials for them. a case in point my 1845c skidsteer, not many for sale, people who have them are loath to sell them, any that do come up for sale get premium price and usually gone the same day. just for giggles I went looking tonight for a Hesston 560 round baler tonight on line, none for sale up here, found 6 for sale in the U.S. i'm sure there might be more but when I have to start digging just to find one I get thinking this must be a pretty good piece of equipment. people generaly don't sell good reliable equipment.

I have heard a few bad things about these but for the hay I will put up with it I think this one will be
fine . I am really thinking on getting another bigger tractor and a 3x4 baler for the custom side of things
that will be some time off as I'd really like to expand my cow calf operation and buy another piece of land
first . those case skid loaders are a good machine that's for sure .

Got the sequence box cleaned up found a broken circuit trace been doing some utube research trying to decide if I want to tackle the job myself

We had Ag-Express check out monitor out about 6 month ago, the charged $75.00 to look at it, and test the box. If they find something bad they will let you know the cost before doing the repair. On something small like that I don't think they charge extra for the repair.

sv. forwarded some baler adds off kijiji here tonight, 2 Hesston balers listed today, check out some of the prices we pay up here!! your $2000.00 almost resembles grand theft baler

I just talked to ag express and they will repair auto sequence box for 35$ they also want me to send the control box in and test them together 35$ to test that one. So I think I will send em in and let them go through em both .

So I was on eBay looking at manuals and parts and found this guy here it totally bypasses the sequence box and the original monitor maybe that?s the way I should go? Now you won?t have bale shape monitor anymore but I?ve ran 535 and 435 John Deere and new br450 with no monitor whatsoever as well owned 851 new holland and 855 new holland which never had a monitor at all to begin with

You will probably have the same amount in the two boxes you have after Ag-Express goes through them. I remember now we did send them both box boxes so they could test them. I don't think I could spend $200 + on a piece of cord with three switches on the end of it. Besides with that ebay deal I think the brain box on the baler will still need to work.

It bypasses the brain box entirely . All it does is runs
power to the solenoids I did the same thing today
with my power probe to make the baler function
without the stupid brain . The baler runs but the
clutch I think is worn out and possibly the arms that
the roller are mounted to that separate the clutch
are bent it won?t disengage/ engage right . But at
least I now know the hydraulics and the electro
magnetic solenoids are working properly . The belts
will all need re sized and re laced figure out what is
up with that clutch and it will bale hay

The clutch can be a problem on occasion, good thing about the 560, and the Case 8460 is that you can find them pretty cheap. We are going to look at a 8460 with the monitor this weekend that looks better than our 560, so the 8460 maybe a replacement for our 560 if its in better shape, either way we will have a baler for extra parts.

Somebody had the clutch adjusted way way to tight
I backed it off till it looked like the picture in the book
and that part working properly I think I will rebuild
the clutch while Im at it also need to take all the
belts out and resize them . I have a friend who?s
brother is an electronic wiz and he says he can fix
the broken circuit trace for me . The auto sequence
box tests out good other than no continuity between
pins 16 and 16 on the two connectors . The
hydraulic functions all work correct on the baler
when I cycle them manually with the power probe
so I think we will be good to go
