Hesston balers

Would anyone be able to fill me in on the major differences/ drawbacks between the Hesston 745 and the Hesston 945 balers??

I see a 945 for sale that looks like maybe a good candidate to backup our 745---thoughts??

945 appears to be the same baler only with a wider pickup
My baler (not Hesston) has the wide pickup, I'd hate to go back to a narrow pickup baler.
I've had 2 Hesston 5545's, one was standard 4 ft pickup, the other had the optional gathering wheels, that's what influenced me to go to the wide pickups.

My first roller was a 5560 I think was the number, rolled 5x6's tie arms on each side that crossed over each other when starting the tie, 4"
belts. I guess it was a closed throat....never could visually distinguish between that and the JDs I have had since with open throats.

I sold it because I got tired of trying to get a bale to start. The JDs just walk right into whatever you feed it at whatever speed you feed it
and just gobble it up looking for more.

This doesn't answer your question. Just wondering about your choice and satisfaction with Hesston. But if you are happy, wink, that's
what's important....to me anyway. Don't know if what you are looking for has feed problems too or not. Good luck.

The 945 is the higher capacity baler, and the 745 is the lower capacity. I have a 1745 Massey same as the 754 Hesston and it eats hay like a fat kid eating cake after a
3 day fasting! Solid as a rock also, have a hard time stabbing them. Can't imagine how much hay the high capacity balers would eat. The 945 Hesston is same as the 2745
Massey!

Hay Gobbler is what I call the 745--the wider pickup would be a blessing on some of our windrows at times--my biggest question at this point would be the self contained hydraulic system--is that what the 945 has--and how much more trouble to operate and maintain it would be--I might like to try one--have 1 green tractor that the hydraulics are testy on in hot weather with lots of baler time--with a self contained baler, that tractor would be excellent--good size and power to weight ratio--it is one of-as Tim S calls them--a TANNERITE tractor--LOL
