Hesston tractor

Wondering if anyone had any information on Hesston tractors good or bad. Looking at a hesston 640dt has loader. Will be using it for moving hay and taking hay out to cows.

Not 100% sure but am thinking its the Fiat tractor that was almost like the Oliver 1365 if so they are very good tractors.

They were a failed attempt by fiat to try and a get share of the
us tractor market by using a well respected name on a foreign
built tractor it didn’t work . They are awkward to run but no
worse than any other foreign built piece of crap they sell now
days They look nice . I don’t know who you call for parts
hesston is now agco which agco is slowly making the Hesston
name disappear and fiat owns case ih now so I guess get on
the horn and see who still wants to claim it .

Go to this link and scroll all the way to the bottom. They're rated Excellent. If they're half the tractor that the Oliver 1365 is,
I would have to agree.

I remember a Case dealer here that sold Hesston had some sitting out front for a while, but I never knew anybody personally who
bought one, so I can't say from experience. Remember, they were Fiat and Fiat owns New Holland now. They claim that some of the
transmission and rear ends in the new New Hollands are carry overs from the earlier Fiats.

The motors are about the same too,the mechanic that overhauled my 1365 4WD said that some of the NH tractors built today still use the same block.

No levers between my legs no lever on both sides and in front of the seat that you almost can’t reach and the a few levers beside and half way behind the seat Is less awkward than all that call me crazy 😜 . I do like way the Hesston tractors look

Pretty darned close to my Oliver 1365. Fenders have a newer square look to them. I'd grab it up in a heartbeat. They're tough as a
two dollar steak.

Pretty much the same tractor as the Long I bought new in '76. Doesn't sound as though SV was crazy about the control layout but I loved it in that size; highly manueverable, quieter than a gasser, was the sweetest little hay baling (small squares) tractor I ever had. Never did anything to it but change the oils, filters and a fan belt or two. I sold it with 10,000 hrs on the clock and it still purred like a kitten and would go 100hrs between oil changes without burning or losing a drop.
Square fenders were standard Fiat sheetmetal.

Dad has a Hesston 770 tractor. I have no idea how many hours we put on that tractor over the last
40 years, but it's been a fantastic machine. Baled 10,000 squares and 500 rounds a year for that
40 years and cut and baled with only that tractor. Her and I are well acquinted. Overhauled
once....it has a fiat motor.

There was some sold new around here,, the smaller ones 4 cylinder units 60-80 hp aprox stood up pretty well,, the larger ones,, 100-140 hp like to eat clutches when used on loader work,, this was true even with guys who were good on a clutch,, I was sure glad when the customers I had got rid of them,, myself I disliked the tiny cab and doors,, and dash mounted shifter style,, I never worked on a engine,, or transmission but none here were used that I worked on for farming just loader/haying units, also seen a few hyd pump issues on the steering side of the pump,
