hi/lo range devices

Have a Cockshutt 40 that is in the process of coming together to be used on the "farm" (certainly not a restoration)wondering what might be available or can be adapted to put some form of a clutch/gearing or other device that would give the regular six speed that's in this tractor a hi/lo range to possibly make this a 12 speed? Any suggestions? Has someone done it before and how? Have read in a couple of different farm magazines/books about a Cockshutt "Golden Arrow" (about the same 6spd as 35,40 or 50 has) having an option of a hi/lo range but have never known or heard of anyone that knows anything like that is available? The thirty or E3 series did have a high low option. Not to be shifted in motion. Was available in 1946 to mid 1950 s . Dont know of others except late models shared with oliver and possibly MM after the white buyout. Dont think any 35 40 or 50 series had that option. I could be wrong, I was once!!But that was a long time ago. OK OK rain today and stuck in house. LOL

I think I remember reading one time that you could either get a hi/lo OR live PTO,but not both and that was why Oliver had the first standard live power,not just an option. Might be all wet on that. Anybody else know for sure?

I have some original sales brochures for Cockshutt and COOP and neither mentions a hi/lo for the 40/50. Only on the 30, called them creeper gears.

We had a 30, back in the day and it had the two spd with Live PTO, the 2 spd. did not interfere with the PTO spd.

Hi Dave, Is there any possibility of adapting an Oliver Hyrapower or Hydraul-Shift to a Cockshutt?

When you go from one set of gears to the other you basically have a high/low with a 3 speed trans.The 540 has the same set up but uses 2 levers a 3 speed gearbox and a high/low lever.

My 30 has Hi/Lo and live PTO. I don't know how you'd add more gearing to get 12 speeds.

Wait! I do know how! Buy a DB 990 12 speed! :lol:

Yes my Dad had a 30 with both hi-lo and live PTO. He bought it new in the early 50's.
I learnt how to shift that hi-lo on the move, down shifting from hi to lo in 4th gear hauling manure up hill on the twp. road. 4 lo was faster than 3rd hi.
