Hi-Lo trans for 801

And he will need a hi/lo with the correct input shaft for the 801 Powermaster. A hi/lo out of a 9N will not work in the 801 Powermaster.

Maybe we should define things better. There is an over drive and standard type. Then a under drive/standard type and a combo which gives you over, under and standard gears all of which are Shermans. There is not any and never has been one that was a hi/lo because they are over or under drives and the normal gear that the tractor had from the factory but the Sherman type only work on the 4 speeds which are the 821/831/841 models

Hello Mark , There was only two Sherman Transmissions available when ANY 801 SERIES TRACTOR was built new , The ONE and ONLY (there is NO other they all have the three ranges) Sherman Combonation which has a LOW RANGE , The Standard Tractor Range , and HIGH RANGE , which gives you 12 Forward Speeds , 3 Reverse Speeds , and 3 PTO Speeds . The Sherman Reverser was the only other Sherman Transmission available which just allowed you the shuttle the tractor between reverse and forward in any gear . Unless your tractor is a 1958 with a serial number lower 14,000 you cannot install the earlier Sherman Overdrives or Underdrives that were built for the earlier tractors . Thanks Tony

Just to put a little fly in the ointment. I have put a Shermam (overdrive only) in s 541.SN 71XXX "because I wanted to" For those who want to know what we did to accomplish this. my email is open

Hello Wayne , Yes I know anything can be done if you have the know how the money and the means but I do not think that's what Mark was really asking . Your 541 could be very close to the end of the Gold Demo Tractors . I am looking for the ending tractor and have narrowed it down to between 70,944 and 71,505 is your 541 earlier than that serial number ? Thanks Tony

Sorry Tony, but my memory is not worth anything any more. The 541 I have SN 78678. I didn't think there were any 501 gold demo's, were there?

Hello Wayne , Every Ford tractor that was available with a S.O.S. trans. could have been ordered as a Gold Demo as it was up to the Dealer to decide what he could sell . I have 2 Gold 1801 Industrials from the local Industrial Dealers years ago , and have only seen about 8 or 10 Industrials so far . I have never seen a Gold 501 series but I am also not sure of the lowest serial number 501 series either because there is not much info on them even from Ford . I have seen both Gas and Diesel 501's with S.O.S.'s in them and only about a dozen in total so far . If 501 production could be pin pointed to a date we would know if they could have been available as a Gold Demo , then we could hunt for one . Thanks Tony
