Anyone try hi torque starters are they better than standard starters

No help here - I've never used a high
torque.
I just have questions.

Which 4000 - 3 or 4 cyl? Is it 6 or 12v and
is it gas or diesel?
Why do you need a high torque?
If the original starter is having trouble
turning the engine over it may be worn out
or just as often it's one, or a combination
of the following: Too small of battery
cables, corroded/bad connections, poor
grounds or a weak battery.

I have a 3 cylinder 4000 and replaced the original Lucas with Bosch style aftermarket starter used on a 6610 or 6640. The
Bosch style starter turns the motor much faster and the engine starts much better in cold weather. I changed the starter 3+
years ago with no negative issues.

Yes, I have.
Yes they are better. Starts in half the
time. Smaller, easier to install.
If you own a Cummins, you are familiar
with such a starter.

assuming we're talking about the gear reduction starters....

I have used two now. Both tractors seemed to crank about the same speed, but it was just listening to the cranking. NO apparent increase, no starting faster. My ear however is not calibrated, so take this with a grain of salt.

What I wonder is... since the starter motor on these is much smaller, is there really and increase in torque?

I bought one from this site for my 7710 spins the engine at low temps much better than the orginal.

On a 3 cylinder, I'll agree... the original should be just fine, as long as the battery, cables, and starter are good.
I'm considering upgrading the starter on my 7600. I actually had a gear reduction starter ordered from YT, but got an email saying they're out of stock, with no estimate as to when they'll be available again. I think I'll probably go with a Bosch 40 series starter, instead.

I don't know but diesels are rated for 5" diameter starters. I bought a 3000 diesel with a 4" that later failed. Replacing with the proper 5" made a
whopping difference in starting RPMs, everything else a constant.
