I had a question about a repair kit for a Hobart acetylene regulator.
I attempted, this morning, to phone the Hobart company and inquire about a kit I found on the internet, I finally found a phone number and gave them a call.
Fellow answers the phone with "Good Morning, Victor.".
I said, there must be some mistake, I was calling Hobart.
He says, "There is no longer a Hobart company, even though we still use that name, we are Victor, we own the Hobart name.".
He goes on to say that actually, there is no Victor company either, victor is owned by a company the name of which I could not pronounce even if I could remember it, they are in China.
"Not only that..." he says, "The Smith name is the same way.".
He asks, "Specific questions about repair parts? Not likely. We can sell you the repair kit, but that is all we can do.".
He went on to say that repair kits for regulators would probably be phased out in the future, too much liability, they are going to start saying that regulators are non-repairable, they will be a throw-away item.
What is this world coming to?
