It'd be interesting to know who was bidding. I was at a sale one time and a couple of family members got locked on to "Dad's" Oliver 70. It ended up bringing five times what it should have. One of the sons from out of state ended up with it.

Yeah, there has to be a story behind it or something is super rare or odd... At almost $4k including the 8% premium, plus tax, there's something we don't know.

I went to an estate auction last Saturday. About 250 people there. They were selling all the guy's personal belongings including 40 or 50 guns. I could not believe the HIGH prices things sold for. Stayed to see the first 8 guns sell at over retail at any gun store and left. A box with 5 tubes of obviously old chauk sold for $32.00. Time to go. On the way home I told the guys with me maybe I need to be selling instead of buying.

Maybe LoBoys are more desirable to some folks.

Good point. That is an early Lo-Boy if I recall as well, it is still marked "McCormick" yet that could be someone's restoration job, not necessarily accurate. Did they have Lo-Boys before they were designated "Lo-Boys?" I don't know enough about McCormick/IH.

I don't know anything about Lo Boys either except my friend had one long time ago and really liked it for mowing lawn. I do have a numbered Cub LoBoy.

We're talking about $4k here, so if they're trying to launder money, they're going about it the hard way.
Totally hypothetically, what would be an easier way? Luckily if my current status holds out I will never be required to use such a method. To clarify it’s not that I have other or better methods I just get my funds the old way by working a legitimate job. I would even like to know how this “auction process” could be used to launder money and why it would take 3 parties? Call me ignorant to the ways of the unscrupulous!
