I just purchased a wagon running gear from a friend and I’m wanting to make a wagon to set my 13QT bean head on. My 4400 combine will be used to move the head. I will have to look for sure but I know it has rather small tires to fit behind the 3 row narrow head.

Has anyone done this before? Or does anyone have pictures of anything like this?

.

In my area, some of the local welding shops have made up and sold header transport brackets.

Maybe some outfit near you does?

(Sometimes, unless you have "free" steel already on hand, simply buying something that someone else makes in quantity can be reasonable, IMHO.)

I used the MD brackets on an Electric running gear when I made the head trailer for my White bean head and they worked very well. Had to length the reach pole (eighteen ft. head) and lengthen the tongue. Used 3 1/2" square tube under the cutter bar.

Here?s mine

Years ago my uncle and me built header
trailers out of running gears for a
22',2020 and 854 heads on his IH 1480.
It's not to hard to do if you are using
the same heads and same combine all the
time so that it doesn't have to be
adjustable. Some key things are to be
sure the front of the header hits first,
you don't make it to high to get it off
and watch the wheels of the trailer. You
might have to lengthen the trailer or the
tongue of the trailer to make it work. If
I remember correctly the trailer on the
2020 we lengthened but the 854, we
didn't.

I'm actually trying to build one now for
the head on my case 1665. It has the
throat attached to the head, so it's a
little more complicated.
