Honda 4518 Run/start problems

Tractor runs, stops. Then difficult to restart. After restart, runs and stops.

You need to see if its getting fuel to the carburetor. Does it have fire to the plug when it quits? You may have a plugged fuel filter or dirt in the tank, gas line or carburetor. If there's no fire to the plug when it quits it could be an electronic module that's weak. Hal
PS: Pull the gas line at the carburetor and see if there's a full stream of gas. Hold a clean can beneath the gas line to catch any gas.

El Toro,
I replaced the fuel filter. Gas is getting to the carb. Ran cleaner through the system. My guess is that the electronic fuel shut off needs to be replaced (again). It is a Honda only part @ $150! I was hoping it was something less expensive.

There is another electronic part that is connected to the carb. It has a plunger that is electronically activated. I',m not certain of its function. I replaced it, but it did not solved the problem.

Does it have a oil shut down switch I had a honda that did and in a year it went belly up 2 times

It has an electronic fuel shut off valve that I replaced. I do not know about an oil shut off.

At this point, I think it is either the fuel shut off or fuel pump. Both are pricey, $50 and $200. I have spark, the engine will start putting starter fluid or gas in the carb. But it will only run until those are consumed.

My conclusion at this point is that gas is not getting to the carb, but I don't know the cause. Maybe the gas line or carb or who knows.

Hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor while someone makes an attempt to start the engine. If it will run when your hand is over the throat you either have blockage or the fuel pump is defective. I would bet its the pump. We used this procedure when cars and trucks had mechanical fuel pumps to see if they were defective. Hal
