HOOKING UP A KILL SWITCH???

I bought a tractor that has a kill switch on it but is not hooked up. Where do you hook them normaly on the distributor, coil or into ING switch? Never hooked one up before and will be pulling 12 MPH where they require you to have it and probably not a bad idea!! SWITCH LOOK'S LIKE ONE FROM DEENY'S BUT WOULD RATHER NOT CALL THAT BUNCH OF A$$ H@@L'S!!

Depends on if you have a MSD ignition box or not. If you don't have a MSD all you have to do is hook it in series with the coil power feed. It does not matter if it opens the circuit going to the ignition switch or after the switch going to the coil. I have even seen them hooked in series with the ground side of the coil between the coil and distributor. With a MSD you should hook it up to the propper kill wire on the box as they don't like to just pulling the power from the box according to their instructions. Jake

It does have a MSD box so what wire do I hook it to don't have any paper's for a MSD box? Whould hate to fry the box if I hooked up the wrong wire!

1st,
Disconnect your Battery NEG first with MSD!
2nd,
After your IGN Switch Cut your wire to the Coil/MSD and run a wire to and from the back of tractor end reconnect!
3rd,
Cut your wire at position of your Kill Switch and use Common 3 prong Household Extention cord replacement ends! Female on Tractor Side and wire to upright posts,Use a U Clanp to Mount it to the tractor, Male on Pull out Side and wire between posts, Use Heavy wire to Pull From or A large round Keyring!
4th
Reconect the Battery + first with MSD

Hope This Helps!

How exactally do these break-away switches work? When you pull the ring out it look's like the contact's make a conection or does it supose to break the circuit when it's pulled? Look's like if the contacts make a conection it would cause a short? Sorry to ask so much but i have never foled with one of these and it's allready on the tractor but never hooked up.

I've got a MSDS box, I ran the wire from the batt to the kill switch (a 3 prong plug I used both retangle ends) then to the ign switch. Then you can take it with you and no one can get hurt, or mess with it. How can you not turn off the power to the box.

With MSD Do Knot Hook It UP with a Trailer Break Away Switch!!!

Run A Wire with Plug in and The Break Away will act like You Turned the IGN Switch Off and Knot Harm the MSD!!!!

Don"t mess up your tractor with that switch from Denny"s, which is nothing but a trailer-brake breakaway switch. It SHORTS the circuit! Furthermore, don"t mess up your tractor engineering some goofy looking piece of crap out of an electrical plug and receptacle. Go to Amazon.com and look up SeaDog safety switches. These can be purchased for either a magneto or ignition. The one for a magneto closes the circuit. The one for the ingnition breaks the circuit, so ignition is what you want. I gave around $10 for mine. It does what it"s made to do and looks good too.

Thank's for the help. I looked those kill switches up at amizon and like them semes like there actualy made for that purpose. So the ( DENNY'S) kill switches just cause a short?

the break away swith will work just fine and is much simplier to use. Ground one side of the switch. the other side goes to the White of the msd box or the violet, which ever one you aren"t using. If you are using the points (White wire from the MSD) connect your kill switch wire to the Violet of the Violet/Green connection typically used for the magnetic crank trigger. This puts a constant short to ground which tells the MSD box the motor isn"t turning over and stops the spark. If you are using the crank trigger, connect your kill wire to the white wire that would have gone to the points.

This is also used as a theft deterent switch, suggested my MSD so it is the preferred way to do it.

I would not run a wire to the back and then forward again to break a circuit. That just increases the possibility of problems, harder to make look nice than just a single wire and also is used to run the ignition. I.E. current lose due to long wires.
MSD 6 instructions.

Thanks Crutch.. Knew there had to be an easier way...

I have mine running through a relay.. Ignition comes in the 30 terminal out the 87A terminal.. (12V to the 85 terminal..) and the break-a-way to terminal 86 and ground the break-a-way.. when its pulled it ground the relay and opens the 87A terminal.. Just like turning the key off..
Only down side is that you have added one more component to the system.. but after 6yrs or so.. I've no problems...

But you are living right! :) As long as it is a continuous duty relay and everything is soldered with stranded wire and using strain releifs, it shouldn"t malfunction.

Yes. They're factory made safety switches that break the circuit. What you have completes a circuit just like a kill switch on a tractor with a mag on it. I don't know much about an MSD, but I'd bet that's almost certain instant DEATH to any type of electronic ignition. Some of those high performance watersport rigs come from the factory with MSD ignition, so I wouldn't think these would hurt your MSD. Just wire it in so that it breaks the circuit like you just turned the key off.

If the Denny's switch causes a short, that would be exactly the part to use per MSD. Short ignition trigger to ground.
