My friend just got a #3 Minnesota hay mower. Does anyone know about the year they were built and what colors they were? Thank you.

According to my old parts book, the No. 3 vertical lift mower was made from 1926-1931, and the No. 3 non-vertical lift was made from 1929-1939. If your friend needs any parts I may be able to supply him with some odds and ends (NOS). Regarding colors, I do not have that info.

Thanks for the reply. the wood for the pitman arm is gone and the board on the end of the sickle is gone. Would be nice to even have a template for that end board. Got anything like this? Thanks.

The parts book shows part no. M1517 for the end board, which was also used on later mowers- I have one on a mower I'm using, and would be happy to trace it out for you and/or give dimensions. There are a couple of metal pieces that go with it, M1104-1/2 (1/2" X 3-1/8" carriage bolt with castle nut and cotter pin to hold swath board assembly to the end shoe), M1156 (plate with one center hole and four smaller holes to bolt to the wood- I may have a used one of these, have to check), M1159 (piece of flat iron to bolt on the lower edge), and S35 (a short fat spring to keep tailboard from flopping around). I may have an old pitman stick laying around to trace/measure as well, but nothing new. It is part no. M1510 (just the wood, no metal). I don't believe I have any of these parts except maybe that M1156, but can send you copies of the drawings of the parts (about 5 pages) via mail. I do have some assorted sickle parts (new 5 ft. bar w/sections, some guards, cheek pieces and pitman to sickle bolts). Please shoot me an e-mail if any of this could be any help to you and your friend.

Mower Colours given in a decision of the IHC Paint Committee on 14 January 1927 are:
Harvester Red - Frame, Tilting Lever, Raising Lever, Foot Lever, Raising Lever Quadrant, Seat and Seat Spring, and Rods not otherwise specified.
Harvester Cream - Wheels
Harvester Blue - Cutter Bar and Facing on Wheels
Indian Red - Ironing on Pole and Evener
Ochre - Pole, Evener, and Tracker Board
Natural Wood - Track Clearer Stick
Boiled in Oil - Pitman
