It's a one row, horse drawn drill type planter. I've followed one similar to it a lot of miles, that's about all I can tell you. Parts are probably going to be
non-existent, except for the handles. What are you wanting to know? Are you wanting to restore it or display it or what?

just trying to find out any info I can about it. Would really like to know age and value. I don't have any plans to restore it r sale it unless times get hard. Collecting antiques is my hobby I guess you could say.

Covington Planter is still in business. Ask them about it. Took me 5 seconds with Bing search to find the website.

I can't help you with value, but I can say it was made after WWII since the company didn't move to Dothan, AL until just after then. I think (and I mean THINK)
that they quit making horse planters sometime in the early 60's, but don't quote me on that. However, there is probably no way to determine the exact age of the
planter since it probably doesn't have an individual serial number. It's in excellent shape, for however old it is. A pair of new handles and a little paint ought
to have it in planting shape. Though, I'd hate to know I had to plant with it...

Thank you. I agree I would hate to have to use it. It will sit in my barn with rest of my antique till I'm gone most likely.

Boy, I'm pretty sure I have catalogs from the early 70's showing horse drawn Covingtons. This was during the hippie/back to the land movement time. IIRC they were in a big catalog type book called "The Whole Earth Catalog". I have a couple different editions buried in the mow someplace, sorry but I can't get to them easily.

Dig them suckers out! I'd sure like to see that. I know that there
were probably some guys still using horses then, at least I know
there were here. Heck, I was using them up til 2 years ago! None
the less, I haven't planted with horses since I was a kid. Not
since I discovered a Super M Farmall anyway. I wonder if anyone
still makes a 1 row horse planter? I'd like to see that too.

Mac

Yeah, there are 1 row horse drawn planters still made. Basically a single tractor type unit on a wheel with some handles added. Actually, right now there is a lot of brand new, higher tech stuff being made for the horsedrawn world. The Amish are the big buyers, but some of this stuff is going to developing nations.
