Hey gents..I have a 48 8n, the cooling system is good, new thermo, tight belt, cools good, But my gas tank builds up pressure and gets really Hot, there is some air escaping evidently because I can see drips of gas coming out by the gas cap, Do I just need a new cap ?..maybe open the hood on hot days ?..or is this something else ?...after running say half hour I can open the radiator cap no problem, but the gas is almost boiling sometimes
Thanks
Ron

originaly the tank was vented.. sound slike your vent is plugged. can get a vented gas cap or add a vent to yours.

Nuguy----if it wasn't, the gas WILL boil....it is probably the ethanol in your gas boiling....

To Fix-----simply drill a 1/16" hole in your gas cap, or buy a new VENTED Gas Cap....

Many of us have had the gas boiling in our tanks...DON'T ever open the cap or you will create your own "old faithful".....don't ask how I know...

There are vents in the gas tank itself, but over the years, a lot of them are plugged....drilling the hole or buying a vented cap is easier than trying to unplug the tank vents..

I try to buy "recreational gas" if possibly,,,,but that is probably $6 gallon now...next week I hope to get on the tractors again.

Ethanol?? Sorry to burst your bubble, but gasoline has been known to boil in Ford fuel tanks long before Ethanol was ever thought of.

if venting doesn't fix it, you may try wrapping the manifold with exhaust wrap (like used on headers). or a 6 blade fan. (it will freeze you to death in the winter, but really moves the air across the motor).

8N's will boil the gas in the tank when working hard in hot
weather - mine does. Vent is open, but gas will still boil under
certain conditions, especially when the level gets low. I would
not open the cap until it quits boiling - you can hear it.

Avoid gasoline with ethanol if at all possible.

Prior to the introduction of ethanol in gasoline this now common problem was once extraordinarily rare.
