HOT generator?

My son put an hour on the 1945 2N today. Afterward, I got out my handy IR thermometer to check engine temperatures, etc. Everything looked fine until I accidentally made a pass over the generator. 150*F+ Hot to the touch / can't keep my hand on it. The dang cylinder head is cooler...

6v generator / recently filled oil cup / reads good charge / seems to be running fine - just HOT. It looks like a rebuild maybe as it lacks the patina that the rest of the tractor has.

Now what? Stuff new bearings in it? That can't be normal...

They usually warm up a bit after a workout. Never took the temp, but it's usually hot.I wouldn't worry as long as it charges.---lha

RugHead......gennys do run HOT. Howsomevers; the 1-terminal 3rd-brush genny probably needs adjusting so that yer dash ammeter read about 3-amps when running. Too many amps will boil yer 6-volt battery dry and make it hard to start. .......Dell
