I Have No history on the Tractor at all A person gave it to my neighbors and moved out of the country, my neighbors have no history at all on tractor. We have no way of finding the owners so I have been just been taking everything step by step.
The Tractor was not running and hasn’t for sometime it appears. I worked my way up to starting it but no fire, appears that someone was doing some work on it but I have no idea of what was done and if it was right or wrong 🤷🏻‍♂️
I put a complete new distributor on it the whole assembly but can’t get it to fire. When I turn on the key the reading on top of distributor is 9+ Volts
Battery is new it has 12+volts
Kinda stuck at the moment
Any ideas
 
Basically having same problem as Dale 6-5-21 helped by Bruce (VA) 8n Front mounted distributor but the one I’m working is 12v no spark

If you put 12 volts to it, you may have cooked the points. Does it produce sparks? I often used a 12volt trouble light
to act as a temporary resister. Maybe a bench test of the distributor might reveal something.
Install clean spark plugs.
If the valves are stuck open, no compression.
If no flow through the carb, try a whiff of starting fluid.

i have not put 12v to the top of coil it has a resistor,
it has a new 12v battery, starter, new switch
Ive tested everything to the input of the resistor it’s 12v coming out of resistor is 9v
New wire to top of coil it test 9v
Complete new coil/distribution system which I know those can possibly be defective, new Wires to the plugs
I have an in line spark detector which you unplug wire plug into it then it has a cap to plug on plug
Ive done a complete compression check all 4 have 125-130
It has a New Carburetor all lines cleaned out, air cleaner cleaned perfectly top to bottom
IT IS GETTING NO SPARK TO PLUGS

A look at the points. the likely culprit. Clean them and flush with electrical system cleaner when open, dry it out,. Set them to spec. then then put a dab of distributor cam grease on the cam. Jim

Like I said it’s a New 12v coil/distributor unit but I have not opened it up to check everything because it was all assembled which I realize it doesn’t mean everything is right but had exactly the same results after basically rebuilding the old unit but it was old and worn, weights were sloppy bushings worn so I just decided to get a new unit
I did check everything as for as oms & continuity etc on old unit before installation it back in and had no spark so the reason for buying the new because everything was so worn out in the distributor But as said I’m having same results with new one🙄😤🙃🤷🏻‍♂️

Sounds more like a short in the breaker points area or the points not opening vs. the points needing to be cleaned.

Crank the engine 'til the points are "open", then check the voltage on the primary coil terminal.
 
Hey there Wore Out Thnx for the response Good Sunday to You, BTW the advice you gave me for the oil pump Prime worked perfec, this tractor is sure testing my patience Ive worked on them before but not to the extent of this one completely knowing nothing about the history of it which I’m sure is the same as lots of guys on here I thank everyone for responding and trying to help but as said some at some time or another someone had been trying to bring it back to life Its has a new carburetor and has had no gas in it so I’ve actually had to start at bottom and work my way up. I don’t work on it every day because of other irons in the fire. But my next step was going to be to pop the cap off the distributor with coil still attached as well as distributor still mounted to motor, as said before I realize just because something is brand new doesn’t mean it’s ok but my thoughts were in a completely new unit surely they would at least have the points set right as well as grease on the points lobe but who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️
So who knows 🙄
