I see one of these for sale up here on Facebook Marketplace .... interesting unit. The seller says the Hercules gas engine on this isn't stuck, obviously not running though. He's asking only $1200 CDN which is probably a good buy for the right guy that could handle the project.

Had one in the yard a while back. Pretty simple machines. I've seen them between $500-1500 down here. They don't seem to be desirable at all. The kid who had the one in the yard had picked it up for next to free.

In 1970 we were building a small bridge over Rattlesnake Creek in Jackson County, Illinois. The contractor had a Hough Payloader at the site. I don't remember any issues with the machine, but the operator was a problem. He backed one drive wheel over the creek bank and it was just a whisker from rolling over into the creek. One of the laborers hooked the crane lead onto the low side, at great risk, and the crane operator lifted the sagging corner and helped get it back onto level ground. It was later confirmed that the Payloader operator was smuggling whiskey in his lunch bucket and the contractor fired him on the spot. There are more stories about the fired operator. . .
