How could a Farmall 450 gas be serial number 40556, when they only built 26000, of them ? The plate looks very authentic !

When someone made a late 400 look like a 450 if the serial number plate is original. Sheet metal around gage panel may have some 450 type holes but key switch to start should still be in the gage panel.

I have a 1958 450 and key is not in dash panel. All of the 450s that were in this area are like mine. The picture is not my tractor but is like the set up I have and what I have seen on others.

400 serial number 40556 would have the key start switch in gage panel like I posted where you have the push button starter switch. Don't know if 40556 is late enough, but ones up toward 41000 had the hole in sheet metal the gage panel mounts in for changing the hydraulic valve setting. Never found a original 400 with key switch in panel around gage panel. Never looked at the last built so anything is possible. Serial 409xx had hole to change hydraulic valve setting but the valve shafts were not extended like a 450.

(quoted from post at 02:15:47 12/20/16) It must be a torque tube off a 560 Farmall then,It says it's got a torque.

Unlikely, but anything's possible.

IH moved the hydraulic system to the torque tube on the 560, so there would be a hydraulic filter access plate on the right side with 6 bolts. A Super MTA/400/450 torque tube would not have this plate.

What this person probably has is a 400, and they're going by the fact that the grille is painted white.

Nope, they went over 41,000. I had 40,954 at one time until I decided to get out of 100 series except for a 350.
