How do I polarize a voltage regulator?

I've done this before but it was a long time ago so I want to get it right. I have a Case 630 positive ground tractor. I had the generator rebuilt and I hope the vr is ok. So review for me the correct way to polarize the vr. I've been told to make sure the battery is fully charged. Thanks.

You don't polarize VRs, just generators, but without knowing whether type A or type B, the usual polarization methods may damage a VR.

If it has the original generator, or the same Delco shown to fit it, the procedure I am going to recommend will work. If in doubt tell us the number on the generator tag. They are likely Delco 1100328, 1100379, 1100385 Part Numbers. If Delco: jump the Battery lead on the regulator to the Arm lead on the generator with apiece of solid copper wire (house wiring copper is nice. This should spark a bit and should only need it one time for 1 second, not more. Jim

The case 630 has twq 6 volt batterys, 6volt syestem, positive ground .. You polarize at the voltage regulator for the generator... On voltage regulator, strick an arch between the BATT terminal and the ARM terminal....

My 630 has a 12 volt battery with positive ground, 12 volt system. I believe the alternator was original but it has no tag. Was painted flambeau red before it was rebuilt, now it is black.

The original post said generator, but a later one said alternator. Is it possible that he just mis-spoke the second time? Need some clarification here.

One might be safe to assume generator if he said positive ground. If he hasn’t unhooked the vr isn’t he ok doesn’t need to do this anyway regardless what he has alternator/generator or am I missing something?
