How do you wire a Horn?

I have a 2N. How do I wire a horn to work? I have a Ford 6V horn which works, two wire unit. Ive seen an early 40's truck wiring diagram and tried just like that but the horn stays on and will not go off. Any help or diagram appreciated. Dell, you out there?

What are you using for a horn button? It needs to ba a momentary switch. OFF when released. Watch out when mounting horn and switch that you don't ground the circuit in an inappropriate place. Any + or - markings on the horn or switch may be backwards for your system.

I used a Dennis Carpenter 40's starter button. Problem is, horn goes live when all I do is go from horn to tractor starter switch post, leaving the switch out of the loop. Is operating on this one wire.

Then wire it THROUGH the switch.

Should I just ground one of the horn wires to the frame and use the other wire to go through a switch and then to the terminal block? (Wire it like head lights)

Although most vehicles have a horn relay, I picked up a horn button at a parts house that clamps around the steering column on my old truck.Wanted to add an auxiliary horn, Ran a wire from the battery to the horn button and from there to horn. Works fine. Oooga, Oooga!

Horns in cars with out a relay are wired to the hot lead full time. the other wire goes up thru the steering to the horn button,The horn frame is not connected to the circuit.Horns that use a relay depend on the horn frame for one side of the circuit.You have to know what you have when wiring horns.

I thought horns were always hot and the ground wire went to the horn button. Pushing the horn button completed the circuit by providing the ground. you might think about a relay to save your horn button. Maybe even a fuse.

I looked at car vs truck wiring diagrams to see which would be closest to 2N. Truck looks closer as the horn I am using is two wire and diagram shows it being wired to hot lead. No relay in trucks. I tried replicating this set up with the tractor. When I only hook up the horn to the hot relay and leave the other lead disconnected, the horn sounds. ?? Hoooked up varous combinations. Horn went off with all. I know I am missing someting. Ive got all the parts, including relay if needed, just trying to figure out the combo to get this to work. Any idea? Or is there a tractor schmatic / wiring diagram out there showing optional horn?

I have a dash mounted button I push to engage horn, no power to horn until you push the button

I have a Model T horn on my 48 8N, all I did was take a wire straight from the battery to one of the bolts on the horn. This gives the horn the 6 volts, to make it work. I then put in a push-button switch on my dash board that, if pressed, creates a connection between the wire going into the switch and the dash board (witch is eventually connected to the ground of your battery). with the switch installed, connect the last lead of the horn with the switch and it should work!

various combinations"? are you saying that you can leave on horn lead connected to nothing, connect the other lead to power & horn honks? Are you further saying that if you reverse those two wires that it still honks?
