How does the power steering filter retainer work?

I just purchased a 1963 Ford 4140 0S Heavy duty industrial tractor. It's missing the PSP reservoir filter and retainer spring/hook. I will fabricate the retainer and a new pump/filter/cap gasket/reservoir Sq cut o-rings are on the way.

How does the retainer hook attach? To the inside of the hollow stud at the end where it curls over?

I've recently purchased a Ford 960 which seems to use the same (or similar) Eaton pump. My filter retainer spring thing
hold the filter, but I can't figure out what it is grabbing.

It seems that the same basic pump was used on the 900 and 901 tractors, and some later models of industrial tractors. In
addition, it was used on some Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, Studebaker, and AMC cars. I'm guessing that some of the applications
used slightly different reservoirs/reservoir lids. Prices for aftermarket parts seemed to be much cheaper when you
searched for automotive applications---but shipping charges generally ate up any savings.

Just hooks in hole. Think this site has them, just not listed or not in one I looked at.

Yeah I made a retainer for my reservoir. I bought a spring .81 cents, a 1/2" copper pipe stand off $1.99. I used the handle off a gallon paint bucket I had and a washer I had.

The trick is to grind down the hook and make it pointy like a pin. Also make the handle about 3/4" wide and 3/8" tall so the reservoir cap doesn't hit it.

Works perfect although I might get a large seal to go under the copper top.
