1970 David Brown 990. Seems a little cold blooded, takes a little while to start. Runs good once it does though. Video attached.
Is this worthy of a rebuild?

cant tell a thing with that 3 second jumpy video, thats not even focused on the vent. maybe tell us how much oil you are going through would be more accurate.1970 David Brown 990. Seems a little cold blooded, takes a little while to start. Runs good once it does though. Video attached.

Sorry, I didn't really know what I'm looking at either. It doesn't really seem to use oil. I just see a lot of steam coming from what I assume is a valve cover breather.cant tell a thing with that 3 second jumpy video, thats not even focused on the vent. maybe tell us how much oil you are going through would be more accurate.
i wouldnt say its a lot of blow by, but gauging your oil is more accurate. plus you can if you hold your hand over the breather on a worn out engine there will be compression you can feel. but lazily breathing is quite normal.Sorry, I didn't really know what I'm looking at either. yes and compression to leak past the rings into the crankcase also. so if your out in the field working and you burn 1/2 a gal of oil in 4 hrs you need an engine rebuild. Thanks for the input.
Keeping an eye on oil usage is a good indicator because blow by is caused by worn out rings, which will allow oil up from the crankcase into the combustion chamber?

The breather tube or hose has the orange paint on it behind the PS reservoir. I surprised that it doesn’t extend down to at least beside the oil pan like most do. The side of the engine would stay cleaner if it was extended lower. Not sure how accurate the parts diagram is but it shows it originally directed down the right side of the motor not the left. It comes down from the valve cover. Here is a link to the diagram. I had one doing that and I connected a piece of garden hose to the bottom of the blow by tube and routed it up to the intake manifold. Drilled and tapped an NPT hole and adapted the hose to the manifold. Worked great for a lotta years. Forget what I did with the tractor eventually. When one of mine was doing that, I chose to rebuild it. I didn't want to keep breathing that.
15w40, does not get used hard. I generally do not use the coke start because I only just got it broken looseWhat weight oil are you using?
Is it doing too much idling or light work?
Do you use cold start on pump?
Those engines are good for 20,000 hours
better get it warmed up under a good load for a couple hrs. why do we get important info after the fact. need to get them rings freed up. i was presuming it was a diesel. see better video would have shown that also.15w40, does not get used hard. Any suggestions for how to load it up? It's really just a toy for me, not a lot of hard work for it to do.better get it warmed up under a good load for a couple hrs. why do we get important info after the fact. need to get them rings freed up. i was presuming it was a diesel. see better video would have shown that also.
