how much front weight?

How many (if any) front weights would I need on a 720 gas or 3010 gas with a fully mounted (NOT semi-mntd) 4 x 14 plow?
Could I get by without any?
Have side mountings & 1 front slab on the 720, none for the 3010.
Thanks

A semi mount plow on the 3010 needs base wts and 1 for the tractor and 1 for each bottom. probably at least that for full mount to be safe in transport. Also if the front end wont stay down when plowing the load and depth wont work right. The front wheels MUST stay down tight to the ground in a hard pull. The 720 with a full mount may be worse but others will know for sure.

On the 720 if it is a narrow front add one or two if it is a wide front i wouldnt worry bout it as much. The 3010 if narrow front add one base set and 3 or 4 more out front and if wide front just a base set

I have a 730D/NF with three piece starter weights and two add on weights and pull 4-14 mounted plow. The front never comes off the ground.

I can promise you that you will want a bunch of weight on either tractor with that plow. I used a mounted 3/16 on our 3020s and had to have weight on both the narrow and wide front tractors. You come up out of the furrow and raise the plow without and the tires will be 2 foot of the ground. That is just to much plow to be hanging off the back side with out a pile of weights to offset it. Using that plow with the 720 will be even worse, as the 720 doesn't have the weight up front like a 3010/3020 does with the hydraulic pump and a full fuel tank acting as ballast.

Could you get by without any? Yep, but I wouldn't advise it. We bought a new tricycle 3010 diesel in '63 and a 4 x 14 fully mounted A-C plow; I don't remember the model number, but it was long and heavy. I broke hundreds of acres with it for 2 years before we got a 4020 in '65. Never had a front weight, but sure could have used some. This was in creek bottoms and rolling hills.

We had the two side weights and two front weights on our 630 with narrow front pulling a 4X14 fully mounted and it maybe could have used another weight, but it seemed pretty stable. Sometimes the front would lift in really tough going but it wasn't often. Of course when I was a youngster I'd sink the plow way in and then lift it to purposely bring the front up. Only did it when dad couldn't see me. Jim

Late model 3020 with MF 82 4-14 fully mounted, front comes up if i let the clutch out too fast with no weights. Base weights plus 3 slabs feels good on the flats. Haven"t taken to the hills yet.
