How much is this DC worth?

I'm looking at purchasing this 1952 Case DC. The current owners are asking $3000, the overall condition is in pretty good shape with brand new tires all around. It does not run and hasn't run in a while but we are working on getting it to fire up. I made an offer of paying $2000 cash and trading my 1949 Case SC to cover the difference. Does this sound like a good deal? What is the current market like for DC's or any vintage tractors for that matter?

Thats a nice looking DC. I would expect to be able to buy that tractor for under 2000 in central Iowa. Now maybe a whole bunch of work has been done I don't know about, valve and head work, rings and pistons and sleeves, crankshaft bearings, clutch seals at axles pto etc. Right now I know it has great tires and a recent paint job,(automotive paint or farm store paint) farm store paint I assume so unless I,m convinced more has been done than tires and paint, thats a 1500$ tractor but only then if it will run without any smoke. Hope MY OPINION does not upset you. gobble

I sold a good running DC with a new clutch and eagle hitch, live hyd and pto and hand clutch for $1,800.00. They just don't bring much. I guess cause they made so many and they are not the most comfortable tractor to drive. Still, they have plenty of power and character.

I think the DC Case is more comfortable and simple to operate than any tractor in that era , including the 800 CASE .I have had days seat time on IHC H-M, WD allis , JD A -G. Molene Z,Massey and Oliver 77. All above were wonderful experience to drive , The 800 is a Great tractor too , But sophisticated for 1958 . kinda like a Lincoln verses a model A .. my Power steering on my 800 needs a new belt and it is not a joy maneuvering in tite spots .

Here is a web site to probe for auction prices for JI Case tractors. Look under the D series and start probing.

Note that the DC 4 that sold for $3000 was an FFA project.

Road gear would be around what, maybe 10 MPH, slow for an organized group tractor drive.

If you had to turn around and sell it today it would be hard to get half that price. Why haven't the sellers jumped at your offer yet?

Thanks for all the input and advice. I'm still trying to get the tractor running and mine running as well to possibly work out a trade.

My guess would be 800-1200.00 for the tractor plus the price of the tires. Old tractor/ machinery prices very soft from what i've seen.

Where I live 500-800 running. They still try to get 2500-3000 out of N fords. They all want CUTs because can make payments and get warrenty.

A nice DC4 should be worth 3 grand, but they are not bringing that kind of money. If it was in top running condition, I'd say 2000. As the owner of many D series machines I wish they brought more. Don
