how was your day?

I was running down the freeway when the buzzer went off on the dash. About the third time around the gages trying to find the issue I watched the oil pressure go to zero. So I pushed in the clutch and shut the engine down and coasted to the shoulder. This is what I found. It has some kind of mechanical oil filter and that exploded and pumped out all the oil.. Made for a long day.

The outer casing was totally gone and I could see the bolt that held the top on was broke off in the pipe that goes up the middle. Parts of the inside were still there, looked like the spinner, it was just sitting on the center spindle.

QUICK! CALL THE HAZ-MAT TEAM!!  *lol*

They say bad things happen to good people. Therefore, you must be pretty darned good!

that idea has been in this country since the early 80's i was gonna install one on my Chev truck saved myself money forgot about it.....

Looks like copious amounts of oil everywhere. I used that word "copious" referring to an ink spill once at work and one of the senior technicians had never heard of it. Got to be a joke around there after that.

I just got an email a couple of days ago about a recall on K&M oil filters, the end can blow out where they welded a nut on to make it more user friendly. I have one of those on my motorcycle, they said it can spray oil on the brake and rear tire. So I went to O'Reillys and bought a Wix to replace it, and then submitted all the information for a refund.

A couple weeks ago I was driving the 2013 Mack dump truck. I had picked up and delivered unload and while getting the second load I got out of the truck and there was a lot of coolant running down the side of the truck. I got to one of the owner's place and open the rest of the day fixing it.

I bet the motorcyclist running up the road will have an even worse day than you. You get to replace the filter - the biker ? Well let's say a prayer.

If that would have happened in my local county seat town a hazmat team and the fire dept would have been called and it would have been front page news on the local green, clean water, clean air, anti-farmer newspaper. One cup of ‘possibly oil’ found on the street makes it’s way to this newspaper.

It’s good the engine wasn’t wrecked. Here in Iowa farm country truck engines have been wrecked when the truck is driven through the corn stalks and a stalk flips open the oil pan drain cock. The driver gets out of the truck leaving the engine running and comes back to a non running engine and an oil stream running down the rows.

Last summer a plume of dark smoke went drifting by the yard. I'm talking, blot out the sun, kill all the bugs Cloud....

Went to look around the grove, and a semi was pulled over, hood up, and black smoke pouring out the engine area.

Not sure what it was, went back 15 minutes later and everything but a ten foot oil spray puddle was gone.

Wife was field cultivating this spring, and looked like she was losing antifreeze, liquid dripping from the front pulley area.

Got it home, looked, and - no, not antifreeze. Turned out to be diesel, a couple of the injector lines were spraying out onto the valve cover. I
didn't care for that, a high mist of diesel fuel flying around a hot engine, hot turbo.......

(quoted from post at 19:07:09 06/21/18) The only place I've seen one of those was on a Belarus tractor. Looks like the idea should have stayed abroad.
RONG. These spinner filters should have been on every engine ever build. Would've saved millions of $$ in wasted resources and millions of filter cartridges from ending up in land fills.

Jon,
I have seen those filters on Mack MB 400 from back in the 60's ,they were on the Scania engines.
