Howard Rotovator Tiller

When I was a kid,a neighbor up around the corner from me had one on the back of a D17. He had a nice underslung blade under the front of it. He did a lot of work around the neighborhood with that set up for quite a few years. Everything from tilling gardens to light earth moving jobs. He terraced the yard right next door with it. He'd till it up then use the blade to push the loose dirt.

To my knowledge Howard units were a very well built and a leader in the market at one time. Finding a dealer and parts may be an issue now. I would suggest you check around to see if you can find a dealer and ask about parts availability for that model, as I think some parts may be proprietary.

Howard Rotovators are very heavy duty and excellent quality- used one on such rocky ground that I sure thought it would destroy it, but that same machine was used for many years thereafter.

I googled "Howard Rotovator parts" and got 510,000 hits.

My brother had an 80? Rotavator back in the ?70s mounted on
a JD 3020. It needed a full stack of weights on the front, and
it was a ?1st gear only? in tough ground. But it was one tough
machine!

Thanks for the all the advice, that thing looks like it is built for the US military. The guy wants just $1200. I'm going to see it this week.

Just started a new thread(didn't see yours) about just purchasing a P 70. Picked it up at a used tractor/equipment place. It looks rough in that it is rusty(not bad-no holes). We tried turning it with a pipe wrench but was not able to. Will soon try flushing gearbox housing on the side and refill with gear lube. My understanding is that it was working when parked--just years sitting . Any pointers will be appreciated. Not sure if I made a good purchase but it sure is heavy.
