hp and pto question

I am in need of some advice. I have an 830 case with a 540 pto.

I am looking at a buying a vermeer 605J round baler. I have 2 questions.

1. I realize i am at the lower end of power for this baler...but can I make it work. Will I have enough power to run the baler and make 5" / 5.5 ft bale?

2. What is the best way to solve my pto difference? Do I buy an adapter? It seems almost impossible to find a 540 to 1000 adapter. Any other suggestions? and how will this work?

I am also wondering what you all think of the 605J. Is it a decent baler for $2500?

No way to run a 1000 rpm baler with a 540 pto tractor that I am aware of. I used to run my 505 Super I Vermeer baler with an 830 Case, and it didn't like it very much. Worked for a year or two until I bought a 4020 John Deere, but the Deere played with the baler and the Case had to be run wide open and never faster than 4th gear.

Another sore issue, you don't think of until the bale is ready- but it can't come out, 'cause the gate doesn't open far enough- 'cause your tractor doesn't have enough hydraulic fluid capacity... btdt

So, it's a 54 hp tractor?

The pto speed is the bigger issue.

Some balers you could turn the baler gearbox around and it would be the other speed, but donno about the one you mentioned.

We ran a 605J for several years. It was a good machine, but we were pulling it with an 85 H.P. ( PTO )tractor. That was enough power, but no "runaway", anything less probably won't get it done.

It will run it. It will be a load but I have run my 604 super J with my 830 when the 1070 had the torque limiter go out. As far as the 1000 pto just turn the gear box around. Make the input shaft the output. They are made to do that. They are a good baler.

Have a J Good baler. Makes a nice tight bale. And $2500 is a good price depending on its condition. Check the chains and sprockets.
