Husq. 2654T steering

Good evening, I have a Husqvarna 2654T riding mower, steers left,as it is spose to but only about half turn to the right. Steering wheel makes same rotation both ways to the stop. Sector gears are centered when steering wheel is centered. Please! Any ideas where or what to look for? Thank you in advance!

Yup ....the first thing that gave you away was the 2654 T. That is 26hp engine and a 54inch deck. I have the same machine with the 6 speed manual transmission. They are built that way on purpose. Right turn is something like 17 foot circle. The reason is so when you are mowing the discharged grass doesn't make a great big hay pile to the right side. LIVE with it. Now you can "fix" it if you want to. Jack the machine up and remove the drag link. Item #18. Unscrew the front tierod and cut about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch off. Take a die and rethread the rod. I think it is 1/2 inch. The newer single drag link is a crimp deal once you cut it there is no going back. It will work, just go buy one at NAPA or something. That will give you more right turn. Don't go overboard. Just make a small adjustment. The wheel will flip and lock if you overdo it. I didn't touch mine cause I use that machine at the Batsto show towing the Teddy Bear trailer. Tie a bungee cord to the steering wheel and put her in first gear low range. Takes about two minutes to make that 17 foot circle. Funny thing is the parents love the driver bear and kids kinda look at it and go big deal.

Thank you Jeff! I will just live with it. Gotten almost use to now. I did download all the writeups I could find on the net. Plus it came with all the manuals. Except my deck is different than what this manual shows. Found the right one on the net also. On the Electrolux site!!

One other thing with those big decks. There are three little metal air directors that bolt to the bottom lip. Items 58-59-60. Make sure all of them are there. Makes an incredible difference in how the deck mows. Also do NOT use hi lift or mulcher blades. Any sand, dirt, grit etc gets whipped around under the deck and just chews the crap out of the metal. Just like a sand blaster. Next stop is a bunch of holes in the deck. Those decks "just the bare shell" can list almost $300.oo. You want to use "sand" blades. They are almost perfectly flat with very little lift. Beleave me on this one. Nice thing with the deck on these big boy mowers is they are 10ga. Metal. Very heavy built decks. Called "Estate" machines. They are built by AYP company. American Yard Products. Much better built machines. One more thing. Notice in the illustration the bearings for the steering spindles. Item #6. They are in the pictures but my machine didn't have them. They are called thrust bearings, also needle bearings. If I remember they are 3/4 of an inch. There are two types. One is needle and the other is ball bearings. The ball type is a little thicker. I think the ball type work better with a lawn tractor. You need to see if your shaft is log enough. Then you might need the needle type. When you grease them the grease will keep any dirt out. Find them on Ebay. They make a Fantastic difference how well the machine steers. Night and Day ! Also order a set of these for your headlites. These are made by Samsung and are used as daytime running lites for BMW, VW jettas, etc. Very very bright. Worth every single penny. Just make sure you order 1156 type bulbs. Think that is enough information for today. Jeffcat.

Another note.....my machine had very little righhand steering till i found the problem. Take you front axle apart. No kidding! That plastic bushing doesn't stand up too well. I replaced mine with a bronze bushing and crosss drilled the bolt and added a grease fitting. Works wonders. What happens is that bushing gets worn and it makes the axle tilt till the steering linkage binds in a right hand turn.

Another thing!!! Change your sparkplugs. All of my Briggs engines have NGK plugs. You want BPR6ES plugs. Also for you Honda engines. Now if you really love your machine, go on Ebay and order a pack of BKR6EIX-11 IRIDIUM plugs. You will not believe how your engine will start. You can't let go of the key quickly enough. Also only use hi-test gas. These engines are much happier with it.

A lot of good info there! Thank you! Front axle does do some weird so will look into that and the spindles and wheel bearings more.
Planning on changing plugs so will get the NGK's and 5 gals of high test.
Will look for some sand blades also. Reskinned that JD 3 times and not very interested in doing again any time soon!!!
