I'm in the process of installing the HV 5902 hydraulic adapter plate on my 800, and the 5/16" cap screw included in the kit seems too long. This is the bolt that goes through the center hole in the existing top cover block-off plate, through the adapter, and threads into the top cover.
I meet resistance with maybe 3/8" left before the head of the bolt meets the plate, and probing the hole with a wire suggests that the bolt is longer than the hole is deep. The difference in length between the bolt that I removed when taking off the block-off plate and the bolt included in the kit is also greater than the thickness of the adapter plate, so if this hole doesn't go through the top cover to the sump then it would make sense that the supplied bolt is too long. The 4 corner cap screws provided with the kit can be tightened on the block-off plate without meeting any resistance, although I was not able to reuse the longer 2 of the bolts removed from the block-off plate as suggested in the instructions. They also seemed to be too long, but slightly-shorter bolts of the same diameter were included with the kit.
I can purchase a shorter cap screw to replace the one included in the kit, but I'm wondering if anybody else has run into this issue. Just looking for a reality check since I am not a strong mechanic.
If I have to purchase a shorter cap screw at the hardware store, what grade should I get?
