hyd. prime issues

Hello, i was hoping someone could help me figure out the best place to start for lost hydraulic prime in my 56 ford 600.The lift is strong and smooth in the warm weather, but as soon as it gets cold, and especially if tractor sits, i have to let it run 10-20 min while loosening the allen plug in front of hyd. pump repeatedly. After i get it wroking, it is strong and will usually work the rest of the day fine. Even after one night i may have to bleed it again, and the longer it sits the worse it is.
what are the small things to check first? I have checked tightness of nuts on both ends of aluminum pickup tube. I believe pump was rebuilt or at least resealed about 6 years ago. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem. End up rebuilding the pump. It had a broken spring inside. Check the archives. A person used pipe and a valve to prime his pump. He would turn the valve on the pipe returned the hyd oil to the sump. Made a fast and easy way to prime the pump. Make sure you use heavy pipe and valve.
