Hydraulic capacity

Installed two new hydraulic cylinders on 1949 Farmall "M', I believe that the capacity for the belly pump is 6 quarts, drained all the old oil out. Would I be safe adding 7 quarts since I have installed new cylinders...what happens if it is too much oil?

I though I remember someone on here saying they used to make an axillary reservoir that added a gallon of capacity.

Maybe someone can verify that for us?

I know either way I was thinking about making one so I can use an M on a dump wagon I have. The top of the reservoir has pipe thread on it so it should be pretty easy.

Are those new cylinders 2 way, "double acting" cylinders? If so, add 6 quarts of oil to the belly pump, then run the cylinders in and out several times, and then check for how much oil is still in the belly pump and add more oil if needed. Those cylinders could easily hold 2 or more quarts of oil each, and you may need to top off the belly pump even before the cylinders have been fully extended and retracted.

These are double acting cylinders, did retract them several times, but the dipstick to measure the capacity is missing...so I was trying to use a plastic stick to measure...but not sure of the capacity now that I have retracted the cylinders several times...Is there any other way to measure the capacity without the original dipstick? Thanks for any info on this matter.
