Hydraulic fitting on Ford 555B backhoe

Well, was having a good old time digging with the 555 and the fitting on the stabilizer tore out. It is an ORB and now with the treads messed up on the cylinder, can I tap it out for 1/2 pipe thread? If I can't restore the cylinder threads, its gonna be ugly. Help!

I'd probably try chasing the threads out for the ORB fitting first... You may be able to salvage them. NPT would be my second option. The thing I don't like about pipe is that if you have an adapter that needs to face a certain direction... it is sometimes hard to keep it from leaking because it's not tight enough where it needs to be any you can't get another full turn... and they leak. ORB is great for those situations. See if you can save it.
