HYDRAULIC FLUID FOR JD 40

I use HI tran in my 420, but back in the day 10wt motor oil was recomended. It fills under the seat, and just to the left of the right lift arm is a pet cock, open it and pour oil in till it runs out, not sure of the amount in quarts.

Is there an scv on the tractor and shares equipment with other tractors? If so Hy-Gard should be used.
The oil level equalizes around the lowest leaking area of rockshaft seal.

i just went through a siminar on the hydraulics on the dudque tractors at the gathering on the green. it was told to me only to use 30w oil no detergent, no multivolicty. it will cause foaming an that was what mine was doin. it will leak if you use 10w oil also. or hrdy oil. its to light weight of oil. at least mine did.

I use NAPA's general purpose hydraulic oil.

As for leaking - don't you know that Dubuques come from the factory with rustproofing built in?
