Hydraulic Fluid Question.

I received my operators manual, for my 340, the other day. In the manual it says to use IH hy-tran for the hydraulics. Would that be the same as Case/IH trans/hydraulic fluid? If this tractor does have the IH hy-tran in it, what color would the fluid be? I know the Case/IH stuff is red in color. I just want to make sure the right fluid is in the tractor. That's why I asked.

Hy-Tran is made to be used as a hyd fluid and a transmission/rear end fluid and just plain Jan hyd fluid does not do that so stick with Hy-Tran or one that meets those spec

Yes. The newer Case-IH fluid would be the same, or at least compatible with the original Hy-Tran.

Would you know if the hy-tran would be red in color? The stuff that is in this tractor is the same color as motor oil. I just want to make sure someone didn't put the right fluid in the tans/hydraulic reservoir.

AFAIK, Hytran still says "Hytran" on the bottle, so if it doesn't say "Hytran" it's not Hytran.

I think CaseIH produces two different products.

Hy-Tran has always been red, but I bought a pail this summer
from a sister store to the IH dealer I usually buy it at, and this
oil is a regular brown oil color. They told me it was the same oil
and it could be mixed with the red oil. I bought it and used it,
and have had no issues.
