Hydraulic Fluid

What fluid do you guys use?... I was picking up a lift cover gasket/o-ring kit today and my local Ford dealer asked my that question. I told him I was planning on using Supertrac from Tractor Supply. He told me it was to thin and would cause problems. I needed something thicker. Has anyone on here ever had trouble with it?

TSC regular trans-hyd (currently selling a 303 labeled 5 gallon bucket) works just fine in my 2000 and 3000 as they are pre 1974. After that
amenities added to tractors require more additives (per readily available published data) requiring Premium trans-hyd fluid like their Premium
Traveller. I use that in my '88 3910 (wet brakes and IND PTO, clutch packs) and in newer Bransons with lots of goodies.

A tractor with nothing but steel gears and no clutch packs is just fine with the cheapest. In fact in some climates where there is a lot of temperature and humidity changes and condensation you are better off with the plain hydraulic because since it has less of a tendency to absorb moisture than universal oil you can remove the condensation by just loosening the drain plug.

Oh boy. Here we go again, People recommending cheap junk.

Look up the specs for your tractor and find a fluid that "meets or exceeds" them.

Cutting corners on cost on lubrication is just plain stupid. Lubrication is such a small portion of the cost of maintaining a piece of equipment. Why not give it the best lubricant for its specs, rather than the cheapest!

Would depend on the tractor. If 10 series or newer, you will need to go with the "BETTER" fluids. If older than 1986, then the record speaks for itself, a UTF fluid will work fine.

Yup, sotxbill, No clutch packs, dry brakes, the cheap stuff works better than the most expensive because the cheap stuff doesn't suck moisture out of the air like the good stuff does. I wonder where Larry buys his Beemers and Gucci shoes if all retailers are constantly screwing him.

Google “Yellow Bucket Oils” they have been outlawed in at least one state. TSC sells these oils out front every day.
